This was shown by X-ray analysis and IR spectroscopy. Compound 1 can be isolated as red, cubic crystals after reaction of ethyne with [ReO(PMe3)(CH2SiMe3)3]. Its structure is best described by the two resonance structures 1a and 1b, the latter being the most important one (RCH2SiMe3).
