Pretendemos nesse estudo lancar nosso olhar sobre as imagens, iluminuras, que acompanham o texto da Franceschina, obra composta no seculo XV por Giacomo Oddi, na qual sao apresentadas as vitae de Francisco de Assis e outras “figuras ilustres” da Ordem dos Frades Menores entre os seculos XIII e XV. O texto em dialeto umbro possui uma linguagem simples e cotidiana, assim como um carater dramatico e heroico, remetendo-se especialmente a recusa do mundo, a dedicacao as praticas caritativas e religiosas e ao martirio dos frades. Apesar da simplicidade das formas e da tecnica, estas iluminuras registram e divulgam experiencias, mas buscam despertar uma sensibilidade. Neste caso esta e provocada, por um lado, por uma representacao mistica e, por outro, pela exacerbacao da violencia sofrida pelos frades, apresentando o caminho do martirio como a principal expressao de exaltacao dos menores apos a morte de Francisco, em contraste com o franciscanismo dos “primordios”. Palavras-chave: Iconografia franciscana; Franceschina; iluminura ABSTRACT In this study we intend to pay close attention to the images, illuminations that appear in thetext Franceschina, a work from the fifteenth century written by Giacomo Oddi, in which thevitae of Francis of Assisi and other “renowned people” of the Order of Friars Minor betweenthe thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, are presented. The text in the Umbrian dialect has asimple, everyday language, as well as a dramatic and heroic character, referring in particular tothe refusal of the world, the dedication to charitable and religious practices and the martyrdomof the brothers. Despite the simplicity of form and technique, these illuminations record anddisseminate experiences, but seek to awaken a sensibility. In this case it is caused firstly, by a mysticrepresentation and, secondly, by the exacerbation of violence suffered by the friars, showing thepath of martyrdom as the main expression of exaltation of the minors after Francis death, incontrast to the early years of Franciscanism.
