Various techniques are currently available to measure Hgb A1C, including chromatography (column ion-exchange, liquid, affinity, minicolumn), electrophoresis (isoelectric focusing), and colorimetric methods. These methods have been shown to have reasonable precision. However, ion-exchange chromatography, a popular and relatively inexpensive technique, seems to be affected by hemoglobin variants (2). A falsely elevated Hgb A1Cby this method may occur in patients with increased Hgb F or beta-thalassemia, whereas falsely low results may occur when Hgb...References1. StrowigRaskin SP.
