ResumoThree glutamic acid-metabolizing enzymes have been identified and partially purified from cockroach thoracic muscle mitochondria. The enzymes are glutamic dehydrogenase, glutamic-aspartic transaminase and glutamic-alanine transaminase. The glutamic dehydrogenase appears to be NAD+ specific, while the two transaminases require pyridoxal phosphate. Substrate specificity, pH optima, and several other characteristics of each enzyme have been determined.
