ResumoThe use of Dimer-X in the radiological investigation of 100 patients with symptoms of low backache and sciatica is described. The radiographic quality of films obtained was good and the results correlated well with the surgical findings. The patients tolerated the investigation well and there were minimal side effects which were easily treated. Many patients had laterally lying disc protrusions which were well visualised using this water-soluble contrast agent. We consider Dimer-X to be outstanding in the evaluation of the lower thecal space, and to be a definite advance in the radiographic evaluation of the canda equina nerve roots and sheaths.
