ResumoIn the article by Yamamoto and associates, 1 Yamamoto S. Saito W. Yagi F. Takeuchi S. Sato E. Mizunoya S. Vitrectomy with or without arteriovenous adventitial sheathotomy for macular edema associated with branch retinal vein occlusion. Adventitial sheathotomy (AS) was performed in eyes with compression of the vein at the AV crossing not covered with dense hemorrhage. Eyes that did not fulfill this criteria underwent posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) induction only. ReplyAmerican Journal of OphthalmologyVol. 139Issue 6PreviewWe appreciate the interest of Drs. Chalam, Shah, and Shah in our article and thank them for their comments. Our study was not designed to answer the question of whether the results of vitrectomy, either associated with or without adventitial sheathotomy, are superior to the natural history of macular photocoagulation. To answer these questions requires a randomized controlled study as they commented. Full-Text PDF
