ResumoThe red pigment pulcherrimin was isolated from three strains of Candida pulcherrima and converted to pulcherriminic acid. The properties of derivatives of this acid and the products obtained from its reduction indicate that it differs from pulcherriminic acid isolated by other workers. A probable structure for the new pulcherriminic acid is 2,5-diisobutyl-3,6-dihydroxy-pyrazine-1,4-dioxide. The structures of the compounds obtained from its reduction were also investigated.
