ResumoThe topography in the area of the Blake Plateau (24°–34°N, 71°–81°W) has been compiled from original data of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Lamont Geological Observatory. The flat surface of the Plateau, about 850 m deep, is bounded on the east by the Blake Escarpment and the Blake-Bahama Basin. The Blake Outer Ridge is a steep-crested accumulation of sediment trending southeast from the northern end of the Blake Plateau. The distribution of present day and ancient carbonate sediments and the active role of currents, especially the Gulf Stream, helps to explain the physiography of the area.
