ResumoThe catecholamine-mediated hypermetabolic response to severe burns causes increased energy expenditure and muscle-protein catabolism. We hypothesized that blockade of β-adrenergic stimulation with propranolol would decrease resting energy expenditure and muscle catabolism in patients with severe burns.
