ResumoA plate assay based on radial diffusion on Petri dishes containing inulin dye labeled with Remazol Brilliant Blue as substrate provides a specific, reliable and rapid inulinase estimation. It is of potential use in the screening of inulin utilizing microorganisms in large numbers of natural samples. In a screening program for inulinolytic sporeformers, 186 isolates were found to degrade inulin as the sole carbon source. Two strains, named VIR 9 and VIR 64, showed high extracellular enzymatic activity compared with a reference strain of Bacillus subtilis MIR 430A.
