ResumoThe equations to describe the behaviour of a cooled falling film absorber with laminar flow in the absorbent stream are presented and solved numerically by using a novel hybrid method of solution which combines an analytical solution with the finite difference method. Theoretical performance data were obtained in terms of absorber effectiveness, number of transfer units and coolant capacity ratio. These data showed that, for given entry conditions, absorber performance can be improved by increasing the coolant flow rate and/or the contact area for heat and mass transfer. Indications of how absorber performance can be optimized are given.
