We further calculate the linear polarization expected in such a background if a universal magnetic field (UMF) is present in the universe. This is compared with existing polarization upper limits in order to get information about the UMF. We find that for a wide range of the important parameters, the present strength of the magnetic field should be lower than 5 x 10^-10^ G.
