ResumoEnvironmental contamination has previously been reported with the ‘Liverpool’ epidemic strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (LES). At the time of this study 54 LES positive cystic fibrosis (CF) patients had been identified within Nottingham. This study assessed the dissemination of LES by seventeen of these patients and the effectiveness of a portable high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration unit (IQAir Cleanroom H13, Incen AG, Goldach, Switzerland) in reducing the risk of transmission.
