ResumoA homogeneous transparent gel was formed when an organic solution of cellulose acetate was in contact with a metal alkoxide solution. The gel is insoluble in common solvents and electrolyte solutions. It seems that the reaction is due to coordination bonding between hydroxy groups on the pyranose ring and the metal. Enzyme could be immobilized in the gel fibres. The immobilized enzyme is stable for a long period and can be used in a packed column.
