ResumoThe kinetics of the photoinduced decomposition of CuO supported on silica is studied by XPS. Reduction of Cu(II) to Cu(I) follows a pseudo-zero-order process and a decrease of the rate of reduction with increase of copper coverage is observed. The results are discussed in terms of a proposed excited mechanism involving Cu sites directly bonded to the support surface.
