ResumoCST Blast-Furnace 2 has two main troughs in operation and produces 3800 t/day of hot metal.When one of these troughs is under refractory maintenance, it induces a reduction in the amount o taphole mix injected and an increase in the interval between taps.These changes in blast-furnace operational variables create difficulties for the slag and hot metal tapping, reducing the taphole length and promoting a potential loss in the hot metal production/day.This paper shows the main activities developed in the casthouse refractory maintenance work between 2002 and 2006 which allowed main trough campaigns greater than 100 days of operation, with high operational security.
