ResumoAbstract Polarized fluorescence of organic molecules were studied utilizing a homogeneously aligned nematic liquid crystal as an orienting matrix. The polarized fluorescence ratios were largest for those guests which were the most linear and, therefore, could be aligned to the greatest extent by the matrix. The polarization of the electronic transitions of the fluorescent guests were determined.
