Chemical and Physical Properties in Aqueous Solutions

Resumo

Abstract Density measurements have been carried out on a series of dilute aqueous solutions of n-alkanols and α,ω-alkane diols. The apparent molal volumes, φV, have been derived, and the φ°V values (V°2) at an infinite dilution have been estimated. The \barV°2, the ∂2\barV°2⁄∂T, and the ∂2\barV°2⁄∂T2 of the CH2, the CH3, and the CH2OH groups were obtained from the dependence of the \barV°2 and its temperature behavior upon the alkyl-chain length. It was found that the ∂2\barV°2⁄∂T2 value well reflects the structural effect.
