Resumo

Using a simple five-parameter mathematical model, a method is presented for obtaining, analytically, the distribution of kinetic energy, T, released in a metastable decomposition, n(T) vs. T, directly from the experimental curve. The method can be applied to both (pseudo) Gaussian and dish-topped peaks. The equations n(T) vs. T have been integrated analytically in both cases to yield expressions for T(average) in terms of the five parameters of the mathematical model. All the metastable peaks examined thus far are described accurately by the model. The resulting T-distribution curves can be sensitive indicators of the presence of two fragmentation pathways in the metastable decompositions.
