ResumoNosocomial Legionnaires' disease has become increasingly common, contributing up to 30 percent of hospital-acquired pneumonias in some institutions.1,3 Although it has been clearly established that hospital water distribution systems serve as the primary reservoir for hospital-acquired legionellosis, the precise mode of transmission remains unclear.4 Given that Legionella pneumophila colonizes potable water, respiratory equipment filled or rinsed with tap water may serve as a secondary reservoir for infection.
