Despite the fact that several guidelines and directions for appropriate medical management have been developed for end stage renal disease [1], little has been done so far concerning acute renal failure and its treatment. For this reason we decided to undertake a process seeking consensus and evidence based guidelines in the field of acute renal failure. The name of this process is ADQI: Acute Dialysis Quality Initiative.
