It is increasingly recognized that most cases of herpes encephalitis present a diffuse lesion. However, the signs and symptoms, including those adduced by the angiogram and the electroencephalogram, may also simulate a brain abscess or brain tumor. This series is comprised of 20 patients observed during a 10-year period. The first five cases were fatal. Herpes simplex virus was isolated from the brain of four patients. In the fifth case, characteristic type A intranuclear inclusions with peripheralization...References1.
