The new Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA)/Diabetes Québec report entitled "Diabetes: Canada at the Tipping Point" (1) arrived at the end of 2011. This important document summarizes the challenges and opportunities bound up in the type 2 diabetes epidemic. Repeating for the sake of clarity, type 2 diabetes incidence and prevalence are increasing inexorably so that an estimated one-third of the Canadian population will be affected by one of diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance or impaired fasting glucose by the end of this decade (2).
