Abstract For the determination of the value of the hydrodynamic dispersion coefficient in one-dimensional transport problems, explicit analytical expressions are obtained through the application of the “inverfc” function. These expressions provide a method for quick and exact determination of the hydrodynamic dispersion coefficients with data obtained at any arbitrary experimental point. The method thus avoids the need of obtaining the entire breakthrough curve.
