ResumoFallout activity was measured in snow and rain caught at various altitudes. The results show that less fallout is contained in snow caught at high altitudes than at low altitudes. This fact indicates that snow and rain collect fallout particles by direct process. The capture cross section was calculated. The calculated cross section is proportional to the fallout concentration of snow and rain at sea level. The capture cross section varies between 10−1 and 10 m2/l. This range of values is somewhat smaller than the cross sections calculated from May's Λ, which was obtained by experiments using I131-labeled Lycopodium spores.
