Resumo

The internal sphincter is composed of smooth muscle, it has a basic resting tone, and this tone is the basic physiological property of continuous activity of smooth muscle. The maximum anal pressure occurs between one and three centimetres from the anal verge. This anal canal pressure falls with rectal distension and following operations involving the internal sphincter.
