Resumo

Multidetector CT represents a huge advancement in CT technology. The ability to scan organs, such as the heart in one breathhold, largely eliminates respiratory artefact. Faster scanning allows more accurate imaging within a given vascular phase which has allowed the development of CT angiography. Development of 16-row CT and beyond has enabled the production of true isotropic volume imaging allowing multiplanar reformatting in any imaging plane without loss of data. The ongoing development of new imaging applications has allowed the further development of CT angiography, CT colonography and CT urography which are beginning to replace more invasive diagnostic investigations.
