ResumoThe synthesis of 2-hydroxy hemopyrrolene-5-one has confirmed the identity of a metabolite isolated from urine of some patients suffering with porphyric or other neuropsychiatric disorders. The synthetic product was indistinguishable from one compound produced by photo-oxygenation of hemopyrrole and was chromatographically identical to the natural metabolite. The synthetic and natural products were very reactive, readily forming the methoxy and dehydro derivatives, which were isographic, but separable from the corresponding krypto isomers.
