ResumoA calcium target was bombarded with α-particles of energy 20 MeV and less. The protons emitted in various directions were recorded by means of a gridded ionization chamber. When studying the upper end of the proton energy spectrum, levels in Sc43 were observed (table 1). Angular distributions were measured for several proton groups. The angular distribution for the protons corresponding to the ground state transition was compared with Butler's stripping theory; compound nuclear processes are presumably responsible for part of the cross section, but direct interactions play a major role. The main proton spectrum was found to consist of two groups, one corresponding to the protons emitted from the compound nucleus, the other to protons emitted from daughter(s) of the compound nucleus. Both groups are nearly isotropic. Values for the nuclear temperature were obtained.
