Resumo

1. Production of chloroplast rRNAs was examined in 25 bleached mutants. In most of them, these rRNAs occur in quantities similar to those found in dark grown Euglena from the wild strain. In two mutants only, these rRNAs could not be detected with complete security. 2. Cycloheximide in low concentration and lincomycin produce accumulation of chloroplast rRNAs and appearance of the characteristic maturation doublet p16-m16. This doublet is detected after labelling in autoradiographs, even in the mutants showing no chloroplast rRNAs without previous treatment. Simultaneously, structures reminiscent of plastidial ones, not seen in untreated culture, appear in W3BUL. 3. Permanence of modified plastidial DNA in bleached mutants is discussed.
