ResumoThe aim of this paper is to identify the processes that brought about the development of the innovative continuous surfaces that shelter some of the masterpieces of Central European Baroque architecture. In order to achieve this, an evolutionary analysis is presented. It begins with some of the premises of Baroque architecture, the precedents of which can be found in the works and geometric studies of Guarino Guarini. This is followed by a study of the works of the Dientzenhofer family and Balthasar Neumann, underlining the principles behind and the description of warped ribs, which appear in their designs for the first time in architecture history, and which enabled the construction of their complex vault structures.
