ResumoSummary Anthers of Ipomoea batatas Poir. (= Batatas edulis Choisy) excised at various stages of pollen development and cultured on Murashige and Skoog's medium (MS) supplemented with one or more of the growth regulators - Ad, Kn, Ze, IAA, NAA and 2,4-D - failed to produce androgenic haploids, while those cultured on MS + Ad (10, 20 ppm) + 2,4-D (1 ppm) produced a profuse callus from anther wall as well as the connective tissue. The callus of such a dual-tissue origin retained its diploidy through all the passages. Upon transfer to MS the callus gave rise to diploid plantlets.
