Translation should, as much as possible, give the impression of an original text, written in the reader's language. In the case of our short story, it should also have touches of a text written a long time ago. The following is my translation into Swedish of the short story “O cônego ou Metafísica do Estilo” by Machado de Assis, accompanied by some commentaries on the translation.
