Intensive clinical and laboratory examinations were conducted on 42 of the Thorotrast patients and 29 of the controls. In the Thorotrast series there were 2 cases of thorotrastoma, abnormalities in Brom-sulphalein and serum alkaline phosphatase values, a high frequency of chromosome aberrations, and 1 instance each of liver neoplasm, granulocytic leukemia, and nonalcoholic hepatic cirrhosis. Anemia, elevated white cell counts, and disturbances in red cell morphology were not found.Article HistoryAccepted: Nov 1971Published in print: Apr 1972 FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByDesign and Applications of Nanoparticles in Biomedical ImagingSongping D.Huang2017Kontrastmittelretention in der Geschichte der RadiologieG.van Kaick, S.Delorme2016 | Der Radiologe, Vol. 56, No. 12History note: tragedy of ThorotrastShoichiTakekawa, YoshihikoUeda, YoshihiroHiramatsu, KihachiroKomiyama, HirotsuguMunechika2015 | Japanese Journal of Radiology, Vol. 33, No. 11Inorganic Nanoparticles Based Contrast Agents for X-ray Computed TomographyAnshumanJakhmola, NicolasAnton, Thierry F.Vandamme18 May 2012 | Advanced Healthcare Materials, Vol. 1, No. 4THOROTRAST-INDUCED PRIMARY CEREBRAL ANGIOSARCOMAGopalakrishnanBalamurali, Daniel G.du Plessis, MosesWengoy, NicholasBryan, AmitHerwadkar, Peter L.Richardson2009 | Neurosurgery, Vol. 65, No. 1Medical Devices of the Abdomen and Pelvis1Tim B.
