Resumo

The ir spectrum of HDO at low isotopic concentration in NaCl · 2 H2O and NaCl · 2 D2O was measured in the region of OH and OD stretching fundamentals. The spectrum shows the existence of three OH groups with hydrogen bonds of nearly identical strength, and a fourth OH group much more weakly hydrogen-bonded. Changes of vibrational frequencies and band widths with temperature are small. Narrow OH and OD bands in sodium chloride dihydrate show that the water molecules in this hydrate are fully ordered.
