ResumoLike adding one new hydrogen bond cooperative enhancement stabilizes biological structures. The strength of hydrogen bonding increases with the extent of the H-bonded network. Ab initio calculated binding energies, geometries and spectroscopic properties can be rationalized in terms of non-pairwise-additive charge transfer delocalisation between molecular monomers and peptide fragments. This cooperative hydrogen bonding in peptides will be demonstrated for the model compound N-Methylacetamide (NMA) and 310-helical structures (CH3COGlynNHCH3).
