ResumoAbstract The temperature dependence of the vibrational modes of lead barium niobate (Pb x Ba 1– x Nb 2 O 6 ), which belongs to the tungsten‐bronze family of oxygen octahedra ferroelectrics, were investigated for the first time using the Raman scattering technique. The investigated sample ( x = 0.60) exhibits a ferro–paraelectric phase transition in the measured temperature range. Clear evidence of the structural transformation was observed in the temperature dependence of the phonon energy as well as in the linewidth and the integrated intensity of the Raman bands. The Raman bands assignment was discussed in terms of the vibrational modes of the oxygen octahedron. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
