ResumoTwo new copper(II)–prazosin (Prz) complex compounds, the binuclear green complex Cu2Prz2Cl2(CH3O)2 (1) and the complex salt prazosinium tetrachlorocuprate(II) [HPrz]2[CuCl4] (2), have been synthesized and characterized by chemical analysis, electronic spectra, IR and EPR spectroscopy, magnetochemical, thermogravimetric, calorimetric and X-ray diffraction methods. Each of the Cu(II) centers in the binuclear complex (1) is four-coordinated by two bridging CH3O− groups, one Prz molecule, monodentately bound through the NH2 group and one terminal Cl atom. The crystal structure of the complex salt (2) was solved by the single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The structure consists of CuCl4 2− anions and protonated prazosin [HPrz]+ cations. A network of –NH3+⋯OC hydrogen bonds links the [HPrz]+ cations into layers, parallel to the ac plane, whereas other H-bonds of the type –NH3+⋯Cl–Cu exist between the CuCl4 2− moiety and the protonated amino group of the ligand.
