Resumo1. Survival data are given for 134 consecutive cases of osteosarcoma from the records of the Bristol Bone Tumour Register. The results are analysed to ascertain the bearing of age and sex of the patient, the site, histological type and grade of the tumour, and the complications of Paget's disease and fracture. 2. The five-year survival rate for the whole series is 15 per cent with an average duration of life of 18 months. The prognosis may be slightly better for middle-aged persons but is certainly much worse for elderly patients either with or without Paget's disease. 3. The adverse effect of the following features is shown: (a) advanced age of the patient; (b) inaccessible tumour site; (c) anaplastic and chondroblastic types of tumour; (d) histological evidence of high malignancy; (e) Paget's disease and/or pathological fracture.
