ResumoEnsuring that expression of introduced genes is both safe and effective necessitates directing expression to the appropriate tissue, at levels which produce a therapeutic effect. Extensive research is under way to elucidate the mechanisms and genetic elements involved in regulating expression. With the need to correlate expression levels and phenotypic effects, many problems which will be encountered in attempts to achieve controlled gene expression ran be studied and solved in animal models of human diseases
