ResumoOn the basis of evidence from six areas of speech research, it is argued that there is no reason to assume that speech stimuli are processed by structures that are inherently different from structures used for other auditory stimuli. It is concluded that speech and non-speech auditory stimuli are probably perceived in the same way.
