Laser multiphoton ionisation (2 + 1, REMPI) techniques have been used to locate the lowest gerade Rydberg states of Br2. Three new states in the first Rydberg cluster (0g+ and 2×1g) based on the configurations (2Π32)g5sσ and (2Π12)g5sσ, are reported. Evidence for the fourth, weaker, member (2g) of the cluster is presented.
