In these 3 species the schistosome larvae enter cutaneous venules and migrate to the right heart, squeeze their way through the pulmonary capillaries, reach the left side of the heart, and are then carried by the systemic circulation. Those larvae swept into arterial channels other than the mesenteric arteries are filtered out and die. Those entering the mesenteric arterial circulation pass through the capillaries into the portal vein and mature within the intrahepatic portal radicles.
