Resumo

Abstract Yb-doped Y 3 Al 5 O 12 (YAG) was matched in its lattice constant and thermal expansion to undoped YAG for the growth of zone-doped laser crystals in rod design (doped core, wrapped by the undoped mantle). Sc was used to expand the lattice. For the combination of (Y,Yb) 3 (Sc,Al) 5 O 12 /YAG with 20 at% Yb on the dodecahedral sites, the difference of the lattice parameter between doped and undoped crystal regions could be reduced to 3.63×10 −3 A (=3.02×10 −2 %). Crack-free intergrowth of the core and mantle material could be achieved.
