ResumoRaman and infrared spectra are presented for the planar, bridged molecules I2Cl6 and Au2Cl6. Assignments are made for all but two of the fundamentals of I2Cl6 and all but one of Au2Cl6 for a planar model of D2h symmetry; A normal coordinate calculation is also given. in I2Cl6 the bridge bonds are abnormally long, which is reflected in low values for the ring stretching frequencies.
