Rund 20 Jahre nach dem Beginn ihrer bahnbrechenden Untersuchungen über die Abläufe in Nase und Gehirn bei der Geruchswahrnehmung wurde ihnen 2004 der Nobelpreis für Medizin oder Physiologie verliehen.
