Resumo

Abstract Solubility of hydrogen chloride in organic compounds containing oxygen depends primarily on the electron density on the oxygen atom, which in turn is governed by the structure of the solvent molecule. Values of the solubility are given for a number of solvents. Remarkably large values were observed at low temperatures. A linear relationship is found to exist for some compounds between the molar fraction of hydrogen chloride and the logarithm of the absolute temperature.
