Resumo

Recent studies showed that earlier data on cyclofusional eye movements were artifacts due to subjective observational methods. In this study a subjective technique was modified in an attempt to measure the motor component of the cyclofusional response. The observations as well as the observers' reports indicated that compensatory eye movements were not induced by the cyclo-disparate stimulation. It was shown that the nonexistence of cyclofusional movements has a bearing on the horopter methods. It was also argued that if such movements took place information about the tilt of objects would be lost, which would be disadvantageous to locomotion.
