Resumo

SummaryStacking complexes between DNA or DNA nucleotides and proflavine were studied by E.S.R. spectroscopy after γ-irradiation. The final radiation damage was found to be completely localized on the dye even when the nucleotide: proflavine molar ratio greatly exceeded the equimolar ratio. According to a model which we suggested previously, these results are explained by the random formation of anionic radicals followed by a long-range electron transfer via the stacking towards the constituents of greatest electron affinity.
