ResumoThe crystal structures of two BEDT-TTF (ET) charge transfer salts has been solved by X-ray diffraction (ET or BEDT-TTF is bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene). Whilst the compound with the tetrahedral anion FeCl4− is a 2:1 salt, the one with FeBr4− is a 1:1 salt. The two salts crystallise in the triclinic P1 space group, the unit cell parameters are respectively : a=6.626 Å, b=15.025 Å, c=17.805 Å, α=82.80°, β=89.53°, γ=88.15°, V=1757.5 Å3, Z=2 for (ET)2FeCl4 and a=8.634 Å, b=10.980 Å, c=11.773 Å, α=91.91°, β=102.84°, γ=93.73°, V=1084.5 Å3, Z =2 for (ET)FeBr4. (ET)2FeCl4 has a semi-conducting behaviour with εa=0.43 eV and σRT ∼ 10−2–10−3 S. cm−1 while (ET)FeBr4 is a quasi insulator at room temperature with σRT ∼ 10−6 S. cm−1.
